Welcome to our Feature Teacher for May, Kenneth Smith!
Mr. Ken is originally from Oakland and has been with FACES SF for over 5 years, teaching in our after school program. Some facts about Mr. Ken; he is a lover of poetry and his favorite color is teal, and when he is not working he enjoys playing video games and going fishing around the Bay Area! Mr. Ken made the decision to become a teacher after being inspired by his own teachers - he wants to give back to his students what his teachers gave him. Mr. Ken strives to teach his students honesty and the importance of believing in themselves.
Mr. Ken is a devoted teacher, dedicated to creating inspiring lessons and events for his students – this May, on the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars, Mr. Ken organized a Star Wars S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) event for the after school program, creating Star Wars themed S.T.E.M activity stations for the students to learn and create. It was truly an amazing event!
Thanks Mr. Ken! We’re are so lucky to have you at FACES SF!
"There were times when I had to decide, am I going to get groceries, or pay the electric bill" Such were the economic pressures of young mother Mercedes Cadena as she struggled to make ends meet, raise children, and start a career as a hairdresser in San Francisco. Along with the challenges of finding work to have a place to live and put food on the table for her kids, finding affordable child care was especially difficult.
