We’re excited to announce that April Bacafcra is our Featured Teacher of the Month!
A San Francisco native, born in April and named after the month when she arrived in 1987! We are excited and very lucky to be celebrating her five-year anniversary with FACES SF.
Some fun facts about Ms. April! As a child, she loved to be outdoors, cycling, rollerblading and camping with her family. Her childhood nickname was April O'Neil after the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and her color of choice is green because of its calming effect. A favorite memory of hers was a family camping trip to Yosemite. She remembers they had to be careful to lock up their food before turning in for the night so bears would not visit their campsite. Well, one night someone did forgot and in the morning there was a bear print! Lions... Tigers... and Bears... Oh My! Ms. April remembers being excited about the thought of a bear wandering around their campsite.
Ms. April has enjoyed working with children since she was a babysitter in high school. She majored in Psychology in college, but remembered how much she enjoyed looking after children, and took a number of child development courses. It was through these courses she decided that she wanted to become a teacher! She loves teaching infants and toddlers because it's such a crucial age for development. Ms. April also says that her students brightens her day, everyday - no matter what is going on, seeing the world through their eyes, makes everything better. Ms. April believes in establishing a creative space for our children, one that allows them to thrive, reach their full potential, build a healthy sense of self and have positive and trusting relationships.
When she's not in the classroom, she writes music and sings in a band, performing at weddings, restaurants, and showcases. Go Ms. April!
Thank you for all you do and making a difference in the lives of our children!

"There were times when I had to decide, am I going to get groceries, or pay the electric bill" Such were the economic pressures of young mother Mercedes Cadena as she struggled to make ends meet, raise children, and start a career as a hairdresser in San Francisco. Along with the challenges of finding work to have a place to live and put food on the table for her kids, finding affordable child care was especially difficult.
